What’s new with the Samsung September 2021 security update?

Samsung started rolling out the security update to most of their Galaxy devices from August 30. Google used to be the leader when it came to bringing out updates to their Android phones. However, Samsung is now consistently releasing its security patch ahead of Google. This is one of the reasons that Samsung is fast becoming known as the king of updates. This month is no different.

This is a whole week ahead of the first Monday in September when Google usually starts rolling out their security patch. Google’s rollout was further delayed as the first Monday in September coincided with Labor Day in the United States.

After looking at the security patch from a Samsung-specific angle, two notable changes come with the September security update for certain devices. The first is the issue between a few Galaxy devices and Android Auto. Google promised that the July security patch would fix this problem; however, that was delayed. It would seem that this issue is finally resolved with the release of the September update.

Another notable change with this latest update is that certain Galaxy devices such as the S20 FE and the Z Fold are receiving an update to One UI with the September security patch. Galaxy phones that do receive this update will also gain the benefits of the One UI 3.1.1. This includes changes to the phone app and the new bedtime mode toggle from the quick settings menu. Some of these features of the One UI may be device-specific.
