Victim mentality is one potential byproduct of having been victimized.
There are many forms of victimization, not all of them obvious or generally realized. The psychological effects of victimization are broad and can lead to further victimization in that victim mentality can be recognized and targeted by victimizers.
A major creator of victims is authoritarianism, political, religious, societal, or family based, etc.
It is victims that, owing to Stockholm syndrome, regularly become the victimizers.
This is a psychological truth that easily goes unrecognized just like the effects of victimization are not always recognized.
This law is that we become what we fear.
Some political examples: The conditions of oppression by the British created the Declaration of Independence, to the US presence on the world stage as a dictatorial power. The victims of the holocaust turning Gaza into a concentration camp. Trumps father creating his very sick son.
It is victim mentality that creates this as we become what we hate and hide that truth from ourselves.
Victimization creates hate and where there is fear the expression of that hate will lead to more victimization we cling to some form of reputed goodness to pretend we have not become what we hate.
The hatred of hate creates the holy warrior, the partisan, the believer, the fanatic.
When a victim believes in a cause, he or she automatically accepts as truth all the lies he or she experienced that induced feeling victimized as truth rather than the lies they were. To capitulate to victim mentality is to accept that diminished and abject state as if it were real and to live in a state of pretense, with no possibility. The real victim of victim mentality is oneself.
And that horrible truth is what we will not face. Who wants to know the thing they most love, the ego, is only there to protect us from the loss of real self love.
There will be no interest in truth or fact. Only hatred and avoidance of the messenger and the message. The life raft will drift away empty owing to the fact that all feel unworthy of being saved.
Denial takes many forms all to keep the truth at arms length. But in a state of motivated indifference accidents happen. So many are so absorbed in maintaining the appearance of being OK events that fracture that can lead to suicide. A powerful narcissist might even start a war with Iran if threatened with exposure as a pedophile.
