I’m looking for some technical advice regarding a PCIe issue that I haven’t been able to resolve.
System:
– Intel Core i9-14900KF
– ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi
– BIOS 1836 (latest)
– ASUS ROG Astral RTX 5080
– Samsung 990 Pro 2TB (PCIe Gen4)
– Windows 11 Pro
Issue:
GPU-Z consistently reports:
PCIe x16 5.0 @ x8 5.0
Even while running the GPU-Z Render Test, it remains at x8 instead of switching to x16.
What I’ve already checked:
– Updated to the latest BIOS.
– Loaded BIOS defaults and tested.
– Reinstalled the NVIDIA driver using DDU.
– Disabled PCIe power-saving features.
– Reseated the GPU.
– Verified the 12V-2×6 power connector.
– Best Buy inspected the system and did not find any obvious installation problems.
– The Samsung 990 Pro is installed in the primary M.2 slot. According to the ASUS manual, this motherboard should not reduce the primary PCIe x16 slot to x8 because of that SSD.
