25th Anniversary of Continuous Manned Presence on the ISS

Today marks the 25th Anniversary of Expedition 1 to the ISS when Bill Sheppard, Sergei Kirkalev and Yuri Gidzenko left their Soyuz and entered the station.

Since that day there has been a continuous manned presence in space at the space station. We are at Expedition 73 currently.

There has been someone in space for my kids entire lives.

The ISS has a few more years left but structural fatigue in the Russian segment is going to require us to deorbit it around 2030.

Not bad for a vehicle with a 15 year lifespan.
