I’ve been saying for years that non-fascists should purchase a firearm and learn how to safely own and operate it. Firearms do not have a reverse osmosis method of turning you into a mass shooter. The AR-15 platform does not leach through your skin sapping the vitality of your bodily fluids. Not to mention, they’re an investment that almost always go up in value over time. The firearm itself and ammunition.
It’s about defending yourself from paramilitary forces operating under color of law. If the Regular Army is rolling down your street, this country has already been destroyed and you are no longer free in any sense of the term. So give up, or organize…and yet again, better to have a firearm than to be stuck throwing a rock at the occupying forces murdering your neighbors.
Minnesota is an open carry state with a permit. If hundreds of observers in Minneapolis were all openly carrying…ICE wouldn’t be in Minneapolis. This isn’t about having to return fire against some gestapo fuck murdering civilians in the street. It’s about showing up and letting oppressors know that they’re not going to just walk away unscathed if and when they decide to start murdering.
People discuss how Europe should arm Ukraine and prepare to arm itself against the US. People discuss how MAD is one of the reasons why there hasn’t been a nuclear war. People discuss how NK got nukes and look who isn’t subject to arbitrary regime changes, compared to Iraq, and Iran.

Being unarmed and unknowledgeable on basic firearm operation is not powerful. Making it some kind of identity is an own-goal. All those armed fascists out there really lap it up when liberals and centrists brag about being unarmed.
